Cooking Friendships was born out of the community's response to the devastation brought to the Houston Area by Hurricane Harvey
Hurricane Harvey dumped record breaking volumes of water on the Texas Gulf Coast on its way to becoming one of the most destructive named storms in U.S. History. Harvey's 10 day trek from Rockport, TX to Southwest Louisiana resulted in unprecedented flooding in a heavily populated region, and created difficult living conditions for anyone who found themselves in the area.

The governmental response to the storm was swift and effective. Federal, State, and Local agents rushed to the region while before the rains stopped falling. These first responders found themselves providing services to those who had lost everything in the storm, while struggling themselves with long hours, makeshift lodgings, and little opportunity to find hot meals.

The community response to those who rushed in to help in Harvey's aftermath was immediate and heartfelt. Citizens of the Gulf Coast banded together to do what they could to make the First Responder's time in the area more comfortable. Food was the most tangible way to provide that comfort. There is something special about spending time with a stranger over a hot meal and a good drink, especially when surrounded by disorder and grief.
Sited here are just a few examples of what happened all across Harvey's path of destruction. First Responders who stepped up to assist those in need, and regular people who stepped up to comfort them.
